Our Youth Community Drum and Dance classes have been going strong for months and due to such dedication and continuous expressed interest, we are pleased to announce the opportunity for the youth in our community to be a part of Bandan Koro! The Bandan Koro Youth Ensemble (BKYE) will be lead under the direction of BKYE Artistic Dance Director, Diata Brazelton and BKYE Musical Director/BK Director, Tony Browne.

In lieu of a traditional audition process, children who are chosen to participate in the Bandan Koro Youth Ensemble will go through a six month training program known as “Bilakoro”. This entire process will mirror a rites of passage from the culture of the Maninka people of West Africa.

If you would like your children to be apart of BKYE, a brief informational session will take place on Saturday, April 1st, 2017, 12pm at the South Dallas Cultural Center. This will happen in between drum and dance classes so we encourage you to bring your children to participate.
